Course Synopsis

Each year, an increasing number of cancer survivors and patients currently being treated for cancer are being seen in community dental offices. With cancer treatments growing ever more complex, many dental teams struggle to understand how to safely incorporate cancer survivors into their practice. The goal of this course is to make dentists and their teams comfortable when encountering cancer patients and survivors and know what questions to ask. We will review major cancer types (including breast, prostate, thyroid, colon, oral cancers and more!) and suggested dental modifications, with clinical tips and tricks. The radiographic changes secondary to cancer or its treatment will be reviewed so you will feel comfortable when you see something unfamiliar on imaging. We will cover how to achieve restorative success in profoundly xerostomic patients, and teach you how to read simple bloodwork to determine if and when a patient can be safely treated in your office. The course will finish with a review of challenging cases to synthesize all of the material learned throughout the day.
