Course Description
Single implant-supported crowns are among the most common implant treatments performed in dental practices, yet achieving predictable functional and aesthetic outcomes requires careful planning and execution.
This comprehensive one-day program is designed for general dentists seeking a practical and evidence-based approach to single implant-supported restorations. Participants will learn how prosthetic considerations influence implant placement, how to select and execute appropriate impression workflows, and how to manage peri-implant soft tissues through custom healing abutments and provisionalization.
Through a combination of didactic instruction and hands-on exercises, attendees will gain practical skills that can be immediately implemented in daily practice.

Impression Techniques
- Compare conventional (analog) and digital implant impression workflows.
- Select appropriate impression techniques based on clinical scenarios.
- Understand indications, advantages, limitations, and sources of error associated with each workflow.
Soft Tissue Management
- Understand the role of custom healing abutments and provisional restorations in peri-implant soft tissue management/development.
- Discuss indications and clinical applications of custom healing abutments and provisional restorations.
- Develop strategies to optimize emergence profile and peri-implant soft tissue contours.
Clinical Implementation
- Apply a systematic workflow for restoring single implants from diagnosis to definitive restoration.
- Recognize and avoid common restorative complications.
Hands-On Learning Objectives
Analog Implant Impression Techniques
- Perform open-tray implant impressions.
- Perform closed-tray implant impressions.
- Evaluate accuracy and indications for each technique.
Digital Implant Impression Techniques
- Scan implant scan bodies using an intraoral scanner.
- Understand digital workflow principles for single implant restorations.
- Review common scanning errors and troubleshooting strategies.
Custom Healing Abutment Fabrication
- Fabricate a custom healing abutment chairside.
- Understand emergence profile development.
- Apply soft tissue conditioning principles to improve restorative outcomes.

Staff will be available at the Faculty of Dentistry’s Edward Street entrance to admit participants into the building as this building is not open to the public. If you arrive too early, you may need to wait until staff arrive.

Instructor
Dr. Majid Zakeri is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Prosthodontics Program, where he completed his MSc in Prosthodontics. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCDC) and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry.
Dr. Zakeri is actively involved in dental education at the University of Toronto, teaching in both undergraduate and graduate programs and contributing to multiple continuing education courses. He also teaches at the Mount Sinai Hospital Dental Department. His teaching philosophy integrates advanced clinical experience with academic knowledge, with the goal of helping students, residents, and course participants develop a strong foundational understanding, sound clinical judgment, and advanced clinical and technical skills.
In addition to his academic and clinical commitments, Dr. Zakeri has been involved in several research projects and has received multiple academic and research awards. His professional interests include prosthodontics, implant dentistry, comprehensive treatment planning, interdisciplinary care, and the advancement of dental education.
Dr. Zakeri’s private practice is limited to prosthodontics and implant dentistry, serving patients in the Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto Midtown and Richmond Hill.
