Course Description
This course is designed as a refresher and annual review for the entire dental team in keeping with dental regulatory bodies requirement for annual, formalized infection prevention and control (IPAC) training for all staff. The course is based on the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) IPAC Standard, public health guidelines, and the IPAC procedures at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry. The focus of this course is to provide up-to-date information on best practices in infection prevention and control, instruction on the practical application of those practices in dental offices, and on common issues found in dental offices in RCDSO and public health unit complaints and investigations.

Staff will be available at the Faculty of Dentistry’s Edward Street entrance to admit participants into the building as this building is not open to the public. If you arrive too early, you may need to wait until staff arrive.

Cancellations made more than 10 calendar days before the course start date will receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 10 calendar days of the course start date.
Refunds will not be issued for registrants who do not attend, regardless of reason for absence.
Registrations cannot be transferred to another individual.

Speakers
With an extensive background in dental regulation and professional development, Dr. Swayze oversees the Continuing Dental Education program at the Faculty of Dentistry. As well as being an expert in continuing education, Dr. Swayze is also an expert in infection prevention and control and involved in the development of national standards and guidelines. He is a member of the CSA Technical Committee on Medical Device Reprocessing (Z314) [Z262 TC], setting the national standard on reprocessing, and a member of IPAC Canada.
Lucy started at the Faculty of Dentistry in the 80’s as a Dental Assistant hoping to later pursue an education as a dental student. Instead, the employment opportunities that were afforded to her at the Faculty of Dentistry along with her studies and background in psychology allowed her to develop the passion and growth she holds in her position at the Faculty. She is continuously taking courses to keep herself up to date with Infection Control and holds several certificates, such as Teaching Adults, Public Speaking. She provides IPAC Remedial courses for dentist.
Anne has worked in Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) for many years with leadership roles in a variety of health care settings including long term care, tertiary care, rural community hospital, public health, and Public Health Ontario. Presently Anne leads a team providing risk assessments with respect to IPAC lapses in community health care settings and is the Subject Matter Lead for reprocessing of medical devices. Anne started her career as a medical laboratory technologist and maintains her CIC® through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology. Most recently she obtained her MSc in IPAC. Anne is a member of CSA’s Technical Committee on Medical Device Reprocessing, and frequent lecturer for IPAC courses through Centennial College.
