Course Description

This comprehensive course explores the latest advancements and best practices in implant dentistry, with a focus on immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone. Participants will learn the role of 3D imaging in pre-operative site assessment and its application in precise surgical planning. Key topics include extraction site classification, surgical and prosthetic considerations for successful implant rehabilitation, and the use of guided technology to streamline surgical and restorative workflows. The course also emphasizes the importance of tissue augmentation and its timing in implant site development to achieve optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes. Designed for dental professionals seeking to refine their skills, this program combines evidence-based techniques with practical applications to enhance patient care in complex cases.

The course will also feature a comprehensive hands-on component.

  • Upon completing this course:

    • Adequately diagnose clinical situations suitable for immediate implant placement.
    • Plan implant placement in the esthetic zone based on ideal surgical and prosthetic principles.
    • Understand the prosthetic principles in planning and restoring an implant in the esthetic zone.
    • Fabricate an immediate temporary crown post-implant placement.
  • Please arrive within 30 minutes before the course start time to sign in.

    Staff will be available at the Faculty of Dentistry’s Edward Street entrance to admit participants into the building as this building is not open to the public. If you arrive too early, you may need to wait until staff arrive.

  • Cancellations made more than 10 calendar days before the course start date will receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 10 calendar days of the course start date.

Instructors

Dr. Mario Rotella is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (F.R.C.D.(C)), certified specialist in Prosthodontics. Dr. Rotella focuses his practice concentrating on the treatment of complex cases of aesthetic and functional rehabilitation on natural dentition and implants, with emphasis on veneers, crowns, bridges and dentures. Dr. Rotella’s practice encompasses the traditional prosthetic procedures and the most innovative ones, with particular focus on the minimally invasive prosthetic procedures for the application of veneers, partial restorations, and all-ceramics crowns and bridges.

Dr. Rotella has presented his work in several dental meetings and he has, also, published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry.

He stays current through continuing education courses, lectures and peer-reviewed articles. In this way, patients always receive the best care, in a scientific and evidence-based philosophy.

Dr. Rotella is a member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, Ontario Dental Association, the Association of Prosthodontists of Ontario, and the American College of Prosthodontists. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentist of Canada (FRCD (C)).

Dr. Shereif Zareif Tawfik (known as Dr. Said), a periodontist, completed a periodontics internship at Case Western Reserve University in 2012, following which, he started his post-doctoral training in periodontics with a special focus on growth factors and peri-implant tissue. Dr. Said completed his periodontology training in 2016 at Boston University where he was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the post-doctoral periodontology department for 5 years. He transitioned to full-time private practice limited to periodontology and implant dentistry in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Said is both a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Said is a renowned periodontist as he lectures internationally and has published multiple refereed articles and book chapters on the topic of anterior implant esthetics, with a focus on minimally invasive and cosmetic regenerative procedures.

On his spare time, Dr. Said enjoys spending time with his friends and family, playing squash and travelling to beach destinations where he has recently taken up wakeboarding as a new hobby.
