Course Description
Enhance your understanding of aesthetic anterior restorations in a hands-on learning environment designed for everyday clinical success.
This two-day course focuses on the diagnosis and treatment planning for direct aesthetic anterior composite resin restorations. Key topics include adhesion principles, material selection, biomimetic approaches, monoshade versus multishade composite resin systems, and methods for finishing, polishing, and texturing. The hands-on component of the course offers an opportunity to explore direct anterior restoration techniques for diastema closure, direct veneers, and the restoration of fractured and discoloured anterior teeth.

At the end of this course the participants will be able to:
- Evaluate the aesthetic parameters of anterior teeth, such as shape, proportion, symmetry, texture, and color analysis.
- Utilize photographic documentation and diagnostic aids, including mock-ups, wax-ups, and silicone palatal guides to plan predictable aesthetic treatments.
- Select appropriate adhesion protocols and materials and implement effective isolation techniques to optimize bonding performance on enamel and dentin.
- Select and apply monoshade or multishade composite systems appropriately, incorporating optical principles and internal characterisation to achieve natural aesthetics.
- Apply strategies for restoring discolored teeth by identifying discoloration types, selecting masking materials, and evaluating the need for bleaching before a composite restoration.
- Perform diastema closure using the Front Wing technique.
- Restore a fractured anterior tooth with a palatal silicone index.
- Apply monoshade and multishade veneer techniques.
- Implement finishing and polishing protocols using appropriate tools and techniques to recreate natural enamel contours and surface texture.
- Develop maintenance and repair protocols that preserve function, aesthetics, and ensure long-term success of anterior composite restorations.

Instructors
Dr. Cynthia Meneses is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, where she currently serves as Course Director for Fourth-Year Restorative Dentistry and Course Director for the Second-Year Comprehensive Care Program. With a career in dentistry spanning more than 20 years, she brings extensive experience in both clinical practice and dental education. A graduate of the University of Toronto’s DDS program, Dr. Meneses also has completed postgraduate training in minimally invasive adhesive dentistry a holds a Master of Education in Health Professions Education from the University of Saskatchewan. Alongside her academic responsibilities, Dr. Meneses maintains an active private practice, with general and esthetic dentistry at the forefront of her clinical work with particular interest in contemporary adhesive techniques, minimally invasive restorative dentistry, and anterior esthetic resin restorations.
Paulo Monteiro is a Portuguese dentist with over 25 years of experience, specializing in Restorative Aesthetic Dentistry and Fixed Prosthodontics. He holds a degree and a master’s in Dental Medicine from the Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde Egas Moniz and has completed extensive postgraduate training in Orthodontics, Restorative, and Aesthetic Dentistry at prestigious institutions across Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Brazil, the UK, and Japan.
Throughout his career, Paulo Monteiro has distinguished himself as a clinician, educator, and researcher. He is the coordinator and professor of several postgraduate programs in Adhesive and Aesthetic Dentistry at the Egas Moniz University Institute and serves as a visiting professor at international universities such as Frankfurt University (Germany), ABO Goiás (Brazil), and the University of Hong Kong.
Recognized for his strong contribution to scientific dissemination, he has delivered over 700 lectures and courses worldwide and authored dozens of scientific publications in top dental journals. He is also a scientific consultant for several dental material manufacturers and an active and honorary member of international associations such as the European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Style Italiano group.
His awards include “Dentist of the Year” in Restorative Dentistry (2017), the “Inspirational Lecture Award” from ESCD (2023), and his nomination to the Top 100 Dentists Worldwide by the Global Summit
Institute (2025).
