Course Description
For the last decade, research has demonstrated that the host immunoinflammatory response plays a greater role in the pathogenesis of periodontitis than the mere presence of bacteria. This paradigm shift has impacted the management of periodontitis. Rather than a simplistic focus on bacteria elimination, treatment strategies for managing periodontitis is becoming more complex and sophisticated that will reduce periodontal destruction and improve tooth retention. Saving periodontally involved teeth have become more critical as dental implants are demonstrating a limited lifespan associated with complex biological complications. This course will review the current concepts and strategies on management of periodontitis.
