Cracked teeth are common yet remain a diagnostic challenge in clinical practice. This lecture presents the best available evidence to date regarding the classification, risk factors, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cracked teeth.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Understand the differences between 5 types of the tooth fractures: craze lines, fractured cusps, cracked teeth, split teeth, and vertical root fractures.
  • Understand the presentation, etiology, methods of detection, impact on pulpal health, treatment and prognosis of the cracked teeth.
  • Understand an algorithm for shared decision-making for cracked teeth.
