Unique Solutions to Challenges in Implant Dentistry

Course Description

Over the past thirty-plus years, implant dentistry has evolved to deliver predictable clinical outcomes and has enhanced the quality of life for many patients. However, clinical challenges persist, necessitating unique solutions and treatment modalities to improve success rates. This course, which combines didactic and model-based hands-on learning, will explore various implant challenges and offer practical clinical solutions.

    • Goals of dental implant surgery.
    • Various surgical guides to aid in 3-dimensional implant placement.
    • Selection of macro-geometry implant design, micro-geometry surface treatment, diameters and lengths for various anatomical tooth replacement sites.
    • Considerations for anterior AND posterior immediate implant placement with adjunctive grafting protocol.
    • Utilization of digital technology and software for diagnosis and treatment planning for full arch implant cases.
    • Introduction of Nexus iOS protocol for temporary and definitive prosthesis.

    Hands-on materials and equipment are provided for participants to use in the course.

Instructor

Dr. Lin graduated with honors from the Biochemistry Specialists program at the University of Toronto. He earned his dental degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, where he was on the Dean’s List for four consecutive years and finished in the top 5% of his class. He then completed a one-year General Practice Residency at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, gaining expertise in hospital dentistry, intravenous sedation, and advanced surgical training.

After practicing general dentistry for 13 years, Dr. Lin returned to the University of Toronto to complete his postgraduate training in Prosthodontics.

He now maintains a full-time specialty practice as a Prosthodontist at Toronto Dental Specialist (TDS), which he founded. TDS includes dental specialists in Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics, Dental Anesthesia, and Maxillofacial Radiology. The practice focuses on full mouth reconstructions, dental implant surgery, advanced grafting procedures, implant prosthetics and managing implant complications.

Dr. Lin is a Fellow and Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI). He is also an Associate Fellow and Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) and a faculty member of the Asia Maxicourse Implant Residency program. Additionally, he is a graduate and Fellow of the Misch Implant Institute and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry (ABOI). In 2019, he received the “Dentist of the Year” award from the Ontario Academy of Dentistry.

Previously, Dr. Lin co-directed the University of Toronto’s Aesthetics Residency program and the Implant Prosthodontic Unit and postgraduate Prosthodontic program. He currently serves as an Associate in Dentistry at the University of Toronto in the postgraduate Prosthodontic department. He is also a Fellow and Examiner with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in the specialty of Prosthodontics.
