Medical emergencies in the dental office can occur at any time. In this workshop, participants will practice algorithms for medical emergency preparedness after a review of equipment, pharmacology and strategies. (4 CE points, Category 2)
Tuesday, Mar. 13, 20248:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.Essentials of Pain Management
Management of acute pain may be straightforward or complex depending on patient baseline status. In this lecture, attendees will learn about current best practices and guidelines, along with a review of pharmacology. (4 CE points, Category 2)
Wednesday, Mar. 14, 20248:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.Informed Consent by Shared Decision-Making
Evolving communication practices have less emphasis on message delivery and greater emphasis on patient agency. Transition to this new paradigm can be a challenge for dentists. This interactive workshop provides participants with the principles of informed consent and strategies for shared decision-making with patients. Participants will practice these strategies. (4 CE points, Category 2)

Cancellations

A 100% refund (for tuition fee only) will be granted for registrations cancelled by February 23, 2024. A 50% refund (for tuition fee only) will be granted for registrations cancelled by March 1, 2024. Refunds will not be granted after this final date.

Cancellations can be done by following the link and instructions provided in the registration confirmation email.

Registrations are not transferable.

The University of Toronto reserves the right to cancel events. Registrants will be notified at the earliest possible date in the event of a cancellation. Registration fees for events cancelled by the University will be refunded in full; however, the University will not be liable for any loss, damages or other expenses that such cancellations may cause.

ACCREDITATION

The courses included in this package are considered Category 2 courses by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. Full participation will grant up to a total of 12 CE points. (For more information, please see the RCDSO’s website.)

Speaker

Dr. Wong is an Assistant Professor, and Director of the Graduate Specialty Program in Dental Anaesthesia at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. She instructs graduate students, building their knowledge and clinical skills in the provision of general anaesthesia and deep sedation for adults, children and medically-compromised patients. She also mentors undergraduate DDS students on the use of local anaesthesia, nitrous oxide sedation, and how to address medical emergencies in the dental office.

Dr. Wong is a staff member at the Department of Dental and Maxillofacial Sciences, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and is also active in private practice.
