Lecture

Notches on Teeth: Evaluation and Treatment of Non-Carious Cervical Lesions

Speaker: Dr. John Maggio

May 4, 2024

OVERVIEW

What ARE those grooves that some patients develop on some of their teeth? Are they caused by tooth brushing? Occlusal forces and habits? Acid erosion? Or is it all of the above?

In this course, Dr. Maggio provides scientific evidence of what we currently know about this phenomenon. After discussing the etiologies, protocols will be developed to find and manage the causes for individual patients. Specific indications for restoring these lesions will be presented, with helpful techniques for restoration of these challenging lesions.

Learning Objectives

After completing the course, you will:

  1. See the multifactorial cause of these lesions, and distinguish between occlusal wear and acid erosion.
  2. Know how to counsel patients on tooth brushing, acidic foods and drinks, and occlusal habits.
  3. Choose the best material for each lesion: resin composite, glass ionomer or sandwich restoration.
