The Association for Continuing Dental Education (ACDE), along with 37 of its member schools, is jointly providing a series of live webinars. This series features university-based key opinion leaders presenting numerous topics on multiple dates and times. Presentations are available to meet every dental professional’s schedule and interests.
Course Description
This lecture explores the modern decision-making process for posterior partial coverage restorations, emphasizing conservative, evidence-based preparation designs. Through a progression from traditional gold restorations to contemporary adhesive techniques, participants will gain an understanding of the biological, mechanical, and esthetic principles that guide clinical choices. The session will highlight modern restorative philosophies such as Immediate Dentin Sealing (IDS), Deep Margin Elevation (DME), and Cavity Design Optimization (CDO), providing a comprehensive framework for selecting the appropriate restorative approach in daily practice.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify clinical scenarios that indicate direct versus indirect posterior restorations.
- Apply decision-making principles to determine the need for total versus selective cuspal coverage.
- Understand the role of Immediate Dentin Sealing, Deep Margin Elevation, and Controlled Adhesive Cementation in improving long-term outcomes.
- Evaluate preparation geometry and margin design for enhanced function, esthetics, and longevity.
- Recognize how to integrate modern restorative philosophies to achieve predictable adhesive restorations.

Presenter
Dr. Mohamed Sherif Omar, BDS, MSc, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics and Director of Digital Innovations at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Cairo University in 2011, followed by a Certificate of prosthodontic Training and Master of Science in Prosthodontics in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Dr. Omar’s work focuses on integrating digital technology into prosthodontic education, clinical workflows, and research. His current research includes artificial intelligence applications in jaw motion registration, virtual articulation, and facial scanning. He also has extensive experience in dental ceramics manufacturing and digital workflow development across clinical and laboratory settings.
