ACDE Webinar Series
The Association for Continuing Dental Education (ACDE), along with 37 of its member schools, is jointly providing a series of live webinars. This series features university-based key opinion leaders presenting numerous topics on multiple dates and times. Presentations are available to meet every dental professional’s schedule and interests.
Course Description
Community Health Centers are often overlooked but have a variety of valuable resources for patients. This course will provide details on how community health centers help people with day-to-day needs and struggles. Dental providers will find that they can open access to care for their patients who have chronic conditions but lack funds or insurance for medical care, mental health needs or tax preparation. Community Health Centers are becoming more mainstream, but many providers are unaware of the different services housed under one roof or how interprofessional collaboration contributes to person-centered, holistic care. This course will provide information for the healthcare team to help their patients that may be struggling with unmet needs.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Apply and interpret assessments to address patient concerns that are not dental related but affect their daily living
- Explain how interprofessional collaboration occurs within a community health center
- Develop a list of resources to deliver patient-centered care

This webinar will be held on Zoom.

Presenter
Dr. Patel has 25 years of experience providing dental care to patients, many of them from vulnerable and at-risk communities. Specifically, she has delivered care to most of the shelters in the Dallas metroplex, and she has served patients who are homeless, victims of domestic violence, victims of sexual trafficking, recovering alcoholics and drug addicts and inmates. Additionally, she teaches 3rd and 4th year dental students at Texas A & M College of Dentistry extramural sites: the Dr. M.C. Cooper and Now-Forward clinics.
