Small Field-of-View Cone Beam CT: Principles & Applications

Our Small Field-of-View Cone Beam CT (CBCT) course is designed to introduce dentists to the principles of CBCT and its applications in dentistry. This course meets the educational requirements for using small field-of-view dental CT scanners as set out by the RCDSO (Standards of Practice – Dental CT Scanners). Dentists who complete this course and satisfy the assessment portion of this course will receive a certificate of completion.

This course will review radiation physics and biology, radiologic prescription, acquisition of CBCT volumes, image interpretation, and reporting. An emphasis will be placed on the use of CBCT software, interpretation, and reporting of dentoalveolar CBCT (DACT) imaging volumes.

IMPORTANT: Knowledge of basic computer skills is required for this course. Participants should know how to download and install program files, and how to do basic troubleshooting. Participants must have a computer with Windows 10 installed, as it is required to run the image processing software. Access to a stable internet connection is also required.

This is a HYBRID course. Some components of this course will be online, and some in-person. Online sessions will be conducted on Zoom.

Fees

Dentist – total course fee:

  • $3,395 (if registered by Jan. 5, 2024)
  • $3,595 (if registered after Jan. 5, 2024)

Lunch is provided for participants of this course on Saturday.

Cancellations

A 100% refund will be granted for registrations cancelled at least two weeks prior to course start date. A 50% refund will be granted for registrations cancelled at least one week prior to course start date. Refunds will not be granted after one week prior to course start date.

Registrations are not transferable.

The University of Toronto reserves the right to cancel events. Registrants will be notified at the earliest possible date in the event of a cancellation. Registration fees for events cancelled by the University will be refunded in full; however, the University will not be liable for any loss, damages or other expenses that such cancellations may cause.

ACCREDITATION

This course is considered a Category 2 course by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. Full participation of this course will grant up to 21 CE points. (For more information, please see the RCDSO’s website.)

Instructors

Dr. Thang is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry and a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist. He is heavily involved in the education of undergraduate and graduate students on the radiographic interpretation of dental and oral diseases. His research interests currently lie on the development and evaluation of educational aids, such as augmented reality 3D models and case-based study cards.

Dr. Gaurav Krishnamoorthy obtained his BSc and DMD degrees at McGill University, AEGD at the University of Connecticut, and MSc in Oral Radiology at the University of Toronto.

He currently works at the department of dental oncology and maxillofacial prosthetics at Princess Margaret Hospital, in private practice in Ontario.
