Course Description
This course provides a structured, evidence-based review of tooth wear, with emphasis on diagnosis, etiology, risk assessment, and treatment planning. Participants will learn to differentiate erosion, attrition, abrasion, and abfraction through clinical criteria and case-based examples. The course examines contributing local and systemic factors, including dietary habits and parafunctional activity. Emphasis is placed on comprehensive patient assessment, accurate documentation, and clinical decision-making. Treatment planning strategies will be discussed with consideration of functional stability, aesthetics, and long-term prognosis, supporting predictable and ethical patient care consistent with current standards of practice.

- Identify and classify the different types of tooth wear: erosion, attrition, abrasion, and abfraction.
- Understand the etiology and contributing factors of tooth wear, including mechanical, chemical, and behavioural causes.
- Perform a comprehensive clinical assessment to diagnose tooth wear and evaluate its severity and progression.
- Interpret diagnostic tools such as study models, photographs, and occlusal analysis for treatment planning.
- Formulate individualized treatment plans that address both functional and aesthetic concerns, taking into account finances of each patient.
- Apply evidenced based treatment options to restore worn dentition.
- Communicate effectively with patients about prevention, treatment options, and long-term maintenance.

Speakers
Dr. Leung received her DDS degree at the University of Toronto. She completed a hospital residency at the Boston Medical Center and a Prosthodontics Residency at the University of Pittsburgh. During that time, she also earned a Master of Public Health degree. Following these programs, she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. She has been in private practice since 2005. Currently she serves as a part time Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto involved in the undergraduate prosthodontic education. She has been named an Honorary Class Member for three years and a recipient of the 2019-2020 Dr. Bruce Hord Master Teacher Award.
Dr. Aragon is a Prosthodontist who practices full time in London, Can-ada. She completed her dental school in 1995 in Lima, Peru, She com-pleted a one-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship at the Uni-versity of Michigan in 2001 and a Masters Degree and Specialization in Prosthodontics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Aragon teaches at Western University, as an adjunct professor. She is a Fellow with the American Board of Prosthodontics and the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. She has published a number of manuscripts in peer and non-peer review journals.
