The Association for Continuing Dental Education (ACDE), along with 37 of its member schools, is jointly providing a series of live webinars. This series features university-based key opinion leaders presenting numerous topics on multiple dates and times. Presentations are available to meet every dental professional’s schedule and interests.
Course Description
The world of restorative dental materials gets more complicated every year. The growth of CAD/CAM dentistry is promoting the development of new materials that promise to be faster, stronger, or more esthetic. This presentation will explore the history of dental ceramics for indirect restorations in the dental profession – highlighting both the failures and success in the literature. Building on the lessons learned from “classic” clinical studies, we can confidently recommend modern ways to use the full spectrum of dental ceramics to achieve esthetic and long-lasting results. Participants in this webinar should expect to learn about DICOR – a pioneering material in castable dental ceramics that made many dentists skeptical about ceramic restorations, the development of millable ceramics and hybrid ceramics, and the evolution of zirconia as a dental restorative material.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Review the history and development of all-ceramic restorative materials.
- Compare and contrast indirect ceramic restorative material physical and esthetic characteristics.
- Select appropriate restorative materials to achieve the desired restorative outcome.
- Apply the correct surface treatment to achieve optimal adhesive strength

Presenter
Stephen Sterlitz, DDS, MS, is the Restorative Division Chief at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He completed his dental degree at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry followed by a 2-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry. A highlight of Steve’s Navy career was the opportunity to serve as the CAD/CAM Advisor to the Navy Surgeon General where he played an integral role in integrating the CAD/CAM workflow for over 1,000 dentists who used the equipment in the treatment of over 700,000 patients. With the explosive growth of dental materials in the past decade, it is hard to keep up with new developments. Steve looks for evidence-based articles to help guide his practice and is eager to share the evidence and how it can be applied during patient care to achieve efficient and predictable outcomes.
