Course Synopsis

This is a HANDS-ON course.

Our Small Field-of-View Cone Beam CT (CBCT) course is designed to introduce dentists to the principles of CBCT and its applications in dentistry. This course meets the educational requirements for using dental CT scanners as set out by the RCDSO (Standards of Practice – Dental CT Scanners). Dentists who complete this course and satisfy the assessment portion of this course will receive a certificate of completion.

This course will cover the following:

  1. The biological effects of ionizing radiation and radiation dosimetry
  2. Patient selection criteria and the radiographic examination
  3. Review of normal anatomy in CBCT scans
  4. Image interpretation of oral and maxillofacial pathoses including cases
  5. Reporting of findings in the image data
  6. Medical legal issues and risk management

Participants will also gain experience in reviewing scan cases and reporting the findings.

IMPORTANT: Knowledge of basic computer skills is required for this course. Participants should know how to download and install program files, and how to do basic troubleshooting. Participants are also required to bring a laptop to the course, with Windows 10 installed, as it is required to run the report software. (Mac users can consider using an emulator to run Windows 10.) Please ensure Windows 10 is running properly before coming to the course as we are not able to provide IT support on-site.
