Course Synopsis

This is a HANDS-ON course.

Our Small Field-of-View Cone Beam CT (CBCT) course is designed to introduce dentists to the principles of CBCT and its applications in dentistry. This course meets the educational requirements for using small field-of-view dental CT scanners as set out by the RCDSO (Standards of Practice – Dental CT Scanners). Dentists who complete this course and satisfy the assessment portion of this course will receive a certificate of completion.

This course will review radiation physics and biology, radiologic prescription, acquisition of CBCT volumes, image interpretation, and reporting. An emphasis will be placed on the use of CBCT software, interpretation, and reporting of dentoalveolar CBCT (DACT) imaging volumes.

 

IMPORTANT: The course requires that each participant have competency in the following computer skills: downloading files, installation and troubleshooting of software installation, mouse "point-and-click" skills. Learners are required to have a PC laptop computer purchased within the last 4 years with 1 functional USB port and at least 4 GB RAM. As well, participants should have a version of Adobe Acrobat Reader on their laptop computer in order to display .pdf files. A wired or wireless mouse is also needed.

Apple computers are not compatible.
 

Course Overview

This course will cover the following:

  1. The biological effects of ionizing radiation and radiation dosimetry
  2. Patient selection criteria and the radiographic examination
  3. Review of normal anatomy in CBCT scans
  4. Image interpretation of oral and maxillofacial pathoses including cases
  5. Reporting of findings in the image data
  6. Medical legal issues and risk management
  7. Participants will also gain experience in reviewing scan cases and reporting the findings.

"No shows" will not be eligible for a refund.
