The Association for Continuing Dental Education (ACDE), along with 37 of its member schools, is jointly providing a series of live webinars. This series features university-based key opinion leaders presenting numerous topics on multiple dates and times. Presentations are available to meet every dental professional’s schedule and interests.
Course Description
Dentists often encounter medically complex patients and situations where they need to decide if there is need for antibiotic prophylaxis. This course is intended for the dentist who would like a better understanding of this complex topic to be able to decide when to or when not to prescribe antibiotics for prophylaxis. This course will provide updated information on the ADA and AHA Guidelines, AAOS Updated Appropriate Use Criteria and Best Practices in the various Clinical Scenarios.

Presenter
Revathi Shekar, BDS, MDS is a board-certified oral medicine specialist and Assistant Professor affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. She also serve as an Attending Physician at University Dental Health Services and consultant with UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside . She earned her dental degree and master’s degree in Oral Pathology in India. She completed her Oral Medicine and Oncology Residency at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, Massachusetts, and she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine. Her areas of interest include the oral complications from cancer treatment such as mucositis, graft-versus-host disease, and jaw osteonecrosis. She also specializes in the diagnosis and management of oral mucosal diseases such as lichen planus, leukoplakia, pemphigoid, and pemphigus; salivary gland diseases; neurologic and chemosensory impairment of the maxillofacial region including burning mouth syndrome and orofacial pain conditions.
