ACDE Webinar Series

The Association for Continuing Dental Education (ACDE), along with 37 of its member schools, is jointly providing a series of live webinars. This series features university-based key opinion leaders presenting numerous topics on multiple dates and times. Presentations are available to meet every dental professional’s schedule and interests.
Course Description
A standardized classification system is essential for the dental team to diagnose and treat patients and to study the etiology, pathogenesis, and management of periodontal diseases. It also creates a common language that improves communication among clinicians and patients. The 2017 classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases incorporates two key patient factors: the history of periodontal disease, measured by clinical attachment loss and bone loss—and the rate of disease progression, which estimates future risk without treatment or risk-factor control. This new classification system allows dental health care providers to individualize periodontal care for the patients and address multi-dimensional factors to provide comprehensive therapy and to improve the oral health outcomes.
-
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Differentiate among common periodontal diagnoses including health, gingivitis, and periodontitis while applying staging and grading assessment specifically to the diagnosis of periodontitis.
- Apply the classification system to common clinical scenarios in general practice to enhance diagnosis accuracy, documentation, and treatment planning.
- Integrate patient risk assessments into treatment planning to achieve long term therapy outcomes.
